The Healing Home Approach™ is a trauma-informed model that bridges research, professional practice, and lived experience in foster and adoptive care.
I hold a BA in Psychology, an MS in Child and Adolescent Developmental Psychology, and an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with more than 20 years of experience working with at-risk youth as a former special educator, current child & adolescent psychological development specialist, and clinical mental health professional. My early career included work at a children’s home in South Korea, where I partnered with the foster care system.
I am also the adoptive mother of eight children from foster care, including four adopted as teenagers. Many of my children have significant psychiatric, developmental, and behavioral needs stemming from severe trauma. Despite these challenges, our family has never disrupted a single placement, either in our home or abroad.
As I supported families, caseworkers, and clinicians, I began receiving frequent requests for guidance and training. Foster parents, TFC staff, law enforcement, and hospital professionals invited me to speak and collaborate, leading me to recognize widespread gaps in trauma-informed education. Through further conversations with foster, adoptive, and biological parents, as well as therapists, GALs, CASA volunteers, and law enforcement involved in sex trafficking recovery, those gaps became even clearer.
Drawing from my background in psychology, developmental science, and clinical practice, I developed The Healing Home Approach to provide accessible, evidence-based, and practical tools for caregivers and professionals. I offer trainings, workshops, and consultation throughout Virginia with a mission to make trauma-informed care both compassionate and actionable. A place where understanding meets responsibility and connection becomes the foundation for healing is the goal.
